Rufioh was sitting in the hall of the dorm building, as he often found himself doing when he was bored. He also found that he was bored a lot. It had been almost a month since he first pulled his van up to Skaia University, and the rush of the punk rock scene at home had…
"Eh, I can think of once or twice," Rufioh said with a wink. He jumped to his feet, glad that Latula showed up. He had grown to really enjoy her company. "Come on." He waved her along as he headed down the corridor, a grin plastered to his face. "I know exactly what we can do."
She raised an eyebrow, not entirely trusting his decisions. Eh, fuck it. She didn’t have anything to do today anyway. Bouncing her shoulder off of the wall, she moved to follow him. “I better not be fuckin’ drunk or high after this” she grumbled under het breath.
Rufioh had hit the town to get off the campus. Though it was his new home, the streets always felt more like his home. Fond recollection of driving down memory lane sent a smile to his face. He stopped in a store to grab a Dr. Pepper and drained it. He had thrown it away…
"Yeah?" Rufioh said. He couldn’t really think of anything to say, but he didn’t think he really needed to. He remembered the time way back in his junior year in high school when he spent the night sleeping on the sidewalk with a homeless man after his father fell into a violent drunkenness. He remembered that the guy’s name was Joe Black, but he hadn’t seen him for the entirety of his last year in the city. He wondered what had happened.
Not letting the memories show on his face, he pulled out a pack of Peanut M&Ms that he had grabbed from the drug store and tore off the corner. He tossed one into his mouth, then held it out to the two sitting in front of him on the ground. “Want some?” He said, shaking the bag.
Latula took about three of the brightly colored orbs and throwing one in her mouth, the rest being cradled in her palm. She didn’t take many, wanting to leave most of it to the poor man sitting next to her, he needed it more then she did.
But she knew what it was like, if someone had offered her peanut m&ms two years ago, she would wonder about her state of conciousness. A ‘Thanks’ slipped from her mouth at these thoughts, which was highly uncharacteristic of her.
Something Stupid | Open thread
Rufioh was sitting in the hall of the dorm building, as he often found himself doing when he was bored. He also found that he was bored a lot. It had been almost a month since he first pulled his van up to Skaia University, and the rush of the punk rock scene at home had learned to fade to the rush of waiting. He tossed a ball against the wall opposite him, making a sort of rhythm of it. Catch, throw, catch, throw, wake up, sleep, catch, throw. He lost his thoughts and didn’t even try to get them back. Catch, throw, catch, throw. He found his routine and fell into it. Catch, throw, catch, throw.
He was brought back to life with the sounds of footsteps down the otherwise empty hallways, catching the ball, he turned to find a familiar face. Still in rhythm, he tossed the ball to the figure. “Hey,” he said with an impulsive smile. “You wanna do something stupid?”
Latula had a stationary grin, morphing into a smirk as thoughts grew inside her mind. “Well hello to you too” she grumbled, her eyes scanning over his previous actions. “Since when do we do anything briefly intelligent?” she said in the tone of a joke. Though it really wasn’t one. A perfectly justified statement.
Rufioh had hit the town to get off the campus. Though it was his new home, the streets always felt more like his home. Fond recollection of driving down memory lane sent a smile to his face. He stopped in a store to grab a Dr. Pepper and drained it. He had thrown it away and rounded the corner to find Latula having a conversation with a rough looking homeless man with a sign. He approached the two with a smile on his face. “Hey,doll.” He extended his hand to shake the man’s hand. “What’s goin’ on?”
She shrugged, a smile tugging on her face at his arrival. “Nothin’” she said, crossing her legs. She was relieved at his friendliness to the man, afraid he would judge her and dump her. If they were really in a relationship. She didn’t really know. Or care much. The idea did make her feel a little girly, if Latula could even feel those emotions. She resented the feelings, so she quickly pushed them away.
Back to The Streets (Open)
Her lips quivered, hands shaking, tiny tremors pulsing through her body. Her walking came to a stop, hesitating with her foot hovering over the concrete. Her breath hitched in her throat, unable to breathe.
Flashbacks coursed throughout her brain, days of depression and endless wandering. Aqua-marine orbs focused on a single ragged man sitting on the street. In his hands, a small cardboard square with words messily scrawled on with a sharpie.
Homeless. Anything will help.
She knew what it was like, not having a place to go. Latula gained her sanity, softening her eyes at the man, and taking a seat next to him.
"Hey." she said with a kind voice, one she had never used with another human being in years.
